Harriet watched Grant go about opening the secret entrance to the basement. She'd seen it done plenty of times, and been down there even more. After all, it was how she made her living. To that end, she felt rather lucky to be one of the few allowed to know about it.
When Grant had finished opening the stair way, Harriet waited for the two others to begin their descent before she too went down. For two reasons: one, she didn't like having someone behind her, and two, she was going to make sure no one blundered into the kitchen at the wrong moment. Especially with that bounty hunter out in the bar. When the other two had just about reached the bottom, Harriet nimbly made her way down the stairs as the others began down the hallway. She figured Grant would get the release latch to bring the stairs back up, but if he didn't, she would. Last one in rules, maybe.

Grant waited at the bottom of the stairs for Elizabeth and Harriet to descend. Once they were both down he passed his hand over a rune on the wall. "Elizabeth, this is were you will get your jobs." He passed them both and walked out into a dimly lit cave.
Grant pointed at a board, many pieces of paper hung loosely on the board. A counter sat next to it with a shadowy figure behind it. Off to the side sat a metal door. Grant motioned to the counter. "Behind the counter is Charlie. If you get one of the items on the board you take it to him and he'll take it and give you your pay. But for now," he said moving over to the board on the wall. "It doesn't look like we have anything for a beginner right now."

Elizabeth walked down the stairs and into a dimly light cave. As she walked in she noticed a man behind a counter he looked quite creepy. After listening to Grant Elizabeth walked past him to have a look at the bored,"Their must be something for me to do on the bored" said Elizabeth.

The "man" behind the barred window could be heard letting out a faint chuckle. Though his figure was but a vague shadow to anyone outside the office he was in, his mouth and eyes were visible. Only because they seemed to emit a faint green glow. His laugh sounded quite gravely, like that of a smoker's, though he didn't break out into a fit of coughing at the end of his laugh. He definitely noticed Elizabeth's glance his way, and probably already knew her opinion of him. Was probably the likely reason as to why he'd be laughing. He didn't voice anything beyond that laugh, however.
Harriet shrugged, scratching her cheek idly as she strode over to the bounty board. It had a few new postings since she'd been around here two days ago. Nothing too extravagant. Nor particularly difficult, but you never really knew for sure until you took the job. There were some "for sure" cake-walks, but those never payed as good as the more risky ones she took. She liked to think she had a delicate balance in the jobs she took. Nothing too over the top, but nothing so easy that it'd give her a couple copper coins in payment. That meant robbing the most low-born of the nobles. Usually.
"She could try one. Alfred's been waiting on that antique clock-work watch for a while." She turned around, looking at Grant and their new acquaintance. "Won't pay very well, but it's a good a test as any."

"True, but im not entirely sure we can trust Alfred anymore. If I remember correctly the last two jobs for him weren't as easy as he said and both objects ended up being guarded by more than just a few guards." Grant startedin response, "and I would rather not have to break another person out of an active interigation again."
Grant pondered, while looking at the board. He really didn't see anything that would be easy for a beginner. "Im thinking we may not have anything for you right now."

Name: Kyaer Lamenta (pron: K-eye-ehr)
Age: 38
Occupation: Disgraced noble, Now a rogue
Other: Hates the guards and wants to eventually destroy the government. He was once a high ranking official who was taken down by the scandalous leaders. Also is good with weapons. He has had a good history with Faye in the past.
Appearance: He is tall 6' 6" and has a muscular build. His rune is black and takes a shape almost reflecting a skull shape. It is on the back of his left shoulder and has a large scar splitting it straight in half from his neck down to his mid-side. He has the ability of conjuration, however his powers are weaker than they used to be because of the scar. he has medium length grey hair that he ties the back up in a ponytail. He has grey eyes that go black when his power is utilized. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Jax Kerrigan
Age: 29
Occupation: Noble
Other: Following in his older sisters footsteps, after their parents died, Jax climbed the ranks just behind Faye, however he also took the time to teach himself magic for he did not have the rune like his sister. Him and his sister have a good relationship and often work together. Jax tends to get arrogant because of his position and enjoys watching others fall.
Appearance: standing 5' 11", Jax is averagely muscular and wears a light grey robe. He has short, dark brown hair and light green eyes. He carries a dark blue spell book with brass corner reinforcements and heavy leather binding. The book hovers at his side when he is using it and under his arm when he is not. He enjoys using elemental magic the most. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cynthia: She looked over at Owen and decided to try and strike a casual conversation. "So, what do you do?"
Kyaer: He looked down at the streets. He stood in an alcove on top of one of the taller buildings in the area. He watched the guards with disgust. They looked like ants from where he stood. His hatred of the guards began to show when his shoulder began to glow a deep crimson that was almost black. then the faint light subsided as he looked away and walked further back into the alcove. A few minutes later he had emerged from the bottom of the building, heading out into the street and following the two guards he had watched pass underneath him.

New character.
Name: Faye Kerrigan.
Age: 30
Appearance: standing at 5' 9", she has silky dark brown hair going just past her shoulder blades. Her skin is smooth and slightly tanned. Basically she's beautiful. Her eyes are a deep emerald green. She often wears a long velvet coloured dress, with black shorts undefneath after a nasty experience with another noble. The dress is rimmed with gold lay. She also weads a gold neckalace with a large gem in the center. Instead of heels she wears black boots also putlined with golden fabric.
Personality: Cold and calculating, she isn't afraid of using other to further her own ends. Her only real interest is keeping her current position as a noble. When it comes to arguing or debating she commands attention and has an air of dominance about her. She has a rune right between her shoulder blades. Its color is the same as her eyes.
Other: Having discovered her abilities in her youth, Faye brought her family to noble status. After afew years living as a noble she killed her parents who attempted to use her status for their own needs. This left her and her brother Jax alone. Since then, Faye has been increasing her eank amongst the nobles. Her rune allows her to control wind.
Faye: Walking down the silent halls of her home, Faye listened to the sound of the never ending rain. Her shoes clacked against the marble floor. Thinking about the day to come, she smiled. It was going to be a good day she thought. Though she couldnt start her day till her servants woke up. After all it wouldn't do for her to cart herself about the part of the city, lest another noble see her.

Owen leaned over the counter, rubbing his hands together slowly and turning his head to look at Cynthia. "I'm a professor of sorts." He could no longer hear the others talking in the kitchen and let the feeling of relief wash over him, but took care to conceal any change in his demeanor or posture.

Cynthia: "Of sorts?" She asked, trying not to intrude too much but still curious about what Owen was referring to. She saw him loosen up his posture and half took note of it.
Jax: He stood and looked around his room. 'Empty as usual' he thought. There was no reason for this to be an unexpected occurrence. The only one who ever usually stops by his room is Faye. That is, when she feels like visiting and isn't bothered by his extensive collection of books, taking up his entire wall to the ceiling. With the exception of his best spell book that never leaves his side.

Faye: With the heels of her boots clacking along the floor, Faye passed her brothers room and headed to the houses library. While not as focused on magics like her brothers collection, the library had an extensive collection various other matters, such as a constantly updated record of each noble family in the bastion, what they specialized in and the impact they had on the city.
As she entered, the marble turned to a soft grayish blue coloured carpet. The room was large and had windows that started three feet off the floor and went almost to the ceiling. Pollars held up a balcony that spanned halfway to the windows. The blacony led to the second floor. Each wall was covered in books, with more shelves littered about. Each window had a cushioned ledge at the bottom big enough for Faye to lay on.
While she kept up with the noble families affairs almost religiously, she had an even better source of entertainment in the library. A book she'd taken off a thief who'd tried to steal from her. What was in the book she didn't know, as a rune on it prevented her from opening it. Normally she would have broken the rune but this one resisted every attempt she made.
She pulled the small beaten up leather book from its spot on one of the many shelves. Silently she went over to one of the windows and again began musing on on hiw she could get past the seal, imagining the secrets the book held within.

Jax: He walked into the room behind Faye and spotted her by the window with the book. "Still trying at that one I see?" He approached her, "I've never seen such a rune," he said, again looking at the seal carefully. He's tried to decipher in the past but he was never able to. The rune on the book was unlike any other runes he had memorized in all of his other books.

"My field of research concerns the world outside the bastions, which, isn't something many other nobles take an interest in. Most high-born folk balk at such a concept, content to insulate themselves within these walls," he said gesturing beyond the bar, towards the towering barriers that surrounded the city. He opened his hands and shrugged. "Essentially I present my findings to like-minded individuals and try to get grants to explore outside the walls."

Faye: "I don't think many people have seen a rune like it," Faye said turning to her brother. She'd already pured over every book about runes she could find. Nothing ever showed up about the rune. Leading Faye to think of only three possibilities to what the rune was.
First possibility and most likely was that it was a custome made rune. She'd heard stories of guards finding house's set up for making black market runes. Chalk is what it was called, she thought. If the rune was a custom design and made with that then it would explain why none of her books would have any information on it. After all the only way to learn about it would be word of mouth.
The second option, and the one that was more juicy, was that rune was made by the head of one of the bastions. While she didn't have any proof, she was fairly certain that the High Overseers had access more magic than any one else. As such they would be likely to keep certain powerful runes to themselves.
Just thinking about having dirt on an Overseer made her spine tingle in joy. "Do you know when the cart driver will be back? I need to go see Head Guard whats 'is name."

Jax: "We still have about ten minutes," he said opening a time rune on his book. "His name is (Just) Frank." he added. he turned to the shelf and withdrew a similar book with a similar rune to the one Faye has. "This is what puzzles me though," The rune glowed and the book shot open. "They're similar."
Cynthia: "That's actually really cool," she said, smiling to him. "I personally think its a bit cramped inside these walls. It gets old being here for 21 years in a row, ya'know?" She took another sip of the remarkably strong ale. She doesn't drink much at all, she never usually feels the need to, so its no surprise that the ale would be strong to her. She reached up to dry off the remainder of the water in her hair and once again tightened the bands.

Isabel didn't usually listen to the conversations customers had, but Owen was a regular, and there was only two customers right now. Smirking lightly at the comment about how old the city could get, she gave a single-shouldered shrug and and amused huff.
"Maybe if you have enough money to get around a lot. I haven't even seen most of the city. S'a pretty big place. Apparently there're more Bastions out there, but the news paper wrote that off as a hoax." She rolled her eyes, raising a hand in front of her face to start idly picking at her nails. "But the news is controlled by the Lord Regent and his Inquisition. Who lie to us all the time, probably. Wonder when they're just gonna try to pass permanent control over the Bastion to Kyrion."
She was, of course, subtly referring to the death of the Royal family when their captured beasts from beyond the wall murdered them. It was their forever trusted Inquisition, the only real form of Government aside from the rule of the Monarch, that killed the beasts a moment too late. With all of the Royals dead, leadership fell to the Inquisition, led by none other than the ambitious Kyrion Mogal. Since then, he had bolstered defense against the palace - in which he and his high ranking Inquisitors and Guard Commanders now stayed - and prohibited any animal life from beyond the wall. Simple animals like cats and dogs were still around, though. They'd been in the Bastions as long as anyone could remember.
--
Harriet pursed her lips, glancing over at Grant, to the bounty board, and then to Elizabeth again. She seemed pretty dead set on doing something here, though Grant was right, nothing but Alfred's bounty seemed easy, and Alfred had a knack for underplaying how dangerous and difficult it'd be. With a sigh, she thought through some of the usual people who had bounties up here, but were not right now. Raising a brow as an idea formed in her head, she turned to Grant.
"Does Owen or anyone have a job they might need doing?"

Faye: "Not as similar as you might think," Faye said, looking over to Jax. "The rune on the book you're holding was printed on to lock it. However anyone. With some skills in lockpicking magic can open it. However with this book," Faye started holding up the book in her hand. "This was etched into the leather. The rune wasnt made for mass production. You can tell by the color digferences in the grooves of the rune. This one also has a different structe." She said pointing to each difference.
Grant: Before he could respond to Elizabeth, Harriet spoke up. He hadn't thought of that possibility. It was a bit unusual for Owen . To stop by this early. "I'm not entirely sure, let me go ask Owen if he has any jobs that need to be done." Grant said before turning and quickly walking to where the entered the cave. He placed his hand over the rune and waited for the stair case to lower. He quickly hurried up stairs, making sure to raise the stair case before opening the door to the bar.
"Sorry to interrupt Owen," Grant said, over hearing the conversation between Owen and Cylvia " but would it possible to speak to you for a second?"

"Of course, lead the way." He got up from the bar stool and stretched his legs cautiously. He grimaced slightly as he felt a stiffness in the right one and made a note of it. Turning to the girl still seated at the bar he smiled and nodded. "Begging your pardon miss, I'll be back shortly unless you need to be on your way?"

Jax: "My point exactly. He or she must have based this rune on the standard locking rune. As you know, it is only supposed to be opened by the mage himself. Whether he is deceased or not is another question however." He said, shooting the rune back into the shelf from which it came. He stared at the rune, It appeared almost ancient in its etching. However, making a rune look this old was a fairly common occurrence in books to disuade someone from trying to get into it. He knew it was entirely possible that the owner was alive, though he doubted it. A knocking sound could be heard from the front room. "I guess he's here now," he said, Gesturing his head in the direction of the knock.

Faye: Standing up, Faye passed her brother and responded, "If think I wont find a way to open this, you are mistaken dear brother." She continued to the door and opened it. It was indeed the driver at the door. He was old and everything showed that, except for his posture. That showed that, while he was further on in years, he could still hold his ground no matter the battle.
Together the two walked through the mansion toward the courtyard. The ground was smoothed and free of bumps, it was one of the few good things her parents had done. Her mother had always hated cobble stone roads. The driver stopped at the door to the carriage, holding the door open. "Thank you James," said Faye as she entered. The carriage was a dark blue color with a cushioned interior. Runes on the shock absorbers helped make the ride seemless and smooth. Another insistence by Fayes mother.

***EDIT*** I fixed the second link regarding the helmet she wears. TIME FOR A NEW CHARACTER. LETS GO OVERBOARD WITH THIS! Probably gonna be spelling errors and shit, I don't give a fuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Name: Ranna Skaiev [Pronunciation: Ran-ah Sky-ev] Age: Unknown - Has lived in the Bastion for 98 years so far. Gender: Presumably female based on voice and figure. Appearance: Her appearance has never really been beheld. Other than the form of her body itself, that is. Never has she been seen without her armoured robes covering her entirety. Her womanly features are generally visible, making it easy to distinguish her gender, hips and chest and such. Other than that, not a speck of skin has ever been shown. The only other detail of hers is her voice, and though it's cold and a tad breathy, it seems to retain an odd type of youth. Odd, for someone who's older than 98 years old. Even more odd that people rarely live to that age. Perhaps the oddest feature that Ranna possesses is her height. Right off the bat, the thing that strikes her as powerful or potentially intimidating is her height. She stands at an unnatural 7'4". Other/important information(Specific outfit, piercings, weapons, stuff like that): As mentioned in the Appearance field, Ranna has never been seen without her armoured robes on. These consist of large spaulders, a hooded helm, heavy gauntlets with spiked knuckles, and the robes themselves. The robes were woven with magical imbued fibres, making them as strong as chainmail. Even stronger, in the density of a robe. The general colour scheme of the robes is a dark purple, with a silver trim for the designs. Hanging from her belt are chains that connect to the ends of her robe, two on either side of it's front, and the same in the back. The helmet, and hood. Those were a rather distinguishable trait she was identified with. Those white glowing eyes especially. Though probably not her actual eyes, they were rather extraordinary. The hood covering it was more or less simple, being a hood and all. Her spaulders are quite large, only adding to her opposing appearance. Though at the same time, they look elegant to a degree. Crafted smoothly, and such. Planted in the middle of both of them, is a purple crystal each. They emit a dull glow, almost like it were negative light, it hazes vision when one tries to look through the glow. Good thing the radius of the glow is small. From either spaulder hangs two cloth banners, four in total, and on each is the symbol of a black sun. A simple black circle, encircled by a rounded circuit of triangles for rays. Various decorative pieces adorn the armour, first being the tabard with the symbol of a black sun. Her belt seems to be heavy leather, with a large metal belt buckle, probably acting as more armour. Two horizontal diamond-shaped plates cover her hips, also bending around them to act as additional armour. Many symetrical patterns of dark swirls cover the cloth areas of the robes. Aside from the description given, I'll give you this example to compare with. Think of it as what's in the picture, but also with the details given: i.imgur.com/fw6kE1r.jpg?1And this one is only to give an idea of the helmet. Disregard the armour in this one, even though it's similar: i.imgur.com/9jqyObO.jpg?1Even if she was an adept magic user, she wasn't just MADE out of magic. She had limits as well. As such, she did carry some weapons. On the front of either spaulder was placed a flintlock pistol, angled so that the opposite hand could take hold of the grip easily. The pistols had silver barrels and hammers, along with metal decoration for trim. The handles were wood, that seemed to be etched with runes. The pistols were bound to the spaulders via custom runes, and so if anyone but her attempted to draw them, the pistols wouldn't budge. At her left hip is an expertly crafted sword. The sheathe itself is of intricate design, edged with stylized silver, and coloured to match her robes. The sword itself was a longsword, matching her size, it was a tad bigger than a normal sword. Unlike many magic users, Archmage Ranna was also very physically strong, wielding the heavy sword as easily as holding a twig. Occupation: Archmage of the Bastion Important Relationships(Social ties/history): Though Kyrion Mogal denied that there was any civilized life beyond the walls of the Bastion, Ranna may be proof that there is. Because she certainly did not come to be in the Bastion. In fact, because no one has actually seen her without her armour, it could be argued that she isn't even Human. But, she was first seen, in her armour and all, selling a special tea that invigorated born magic users, waking them up and increasing their magical stamina for a good hour or so, depending on how much they drank. She continued her little inventing process, making things like the great monorail, cures for ailments, until she rose to something akin to a celebrity status. Her work eventually got her one of the largest estates in the city, all the money one could ever ask for, and a general fame among the populous. She even helped fight the wars against the brutish jungle-dwelling barbarians. That not only gained her more fame and fortune, but allowed her to display her great - and considerably dangerous - skill with magic. She was said to be particularly adept at using a type of shadow magic, and though not forbidden like any type of blood magic, it is definitely capable of great evils. Such as the summoning of passed spirits. The reason she was not looked down upon for using it, was because she used it's more physical form, the conjuring and manipulation of things called shadow fibres. These could be used to entangle and foes, or in the case of a very skilled and adept magic user, create solid shapes to work with. Ranna was able to create whips, swords, shields, and even barriers. Though she was noticeably drained after such great undertakings, no one had ever seen anything like that prior to her display. After the wars, she was publicly named "Archmage, Champion of the Bastion" by the Queen. She is still regarded as the Archmage, or Champion, even after the Royal family's demise, and is in good standing with Kyrion Mogal. Among other important nobility. Currently, she lives in her estate in central town, in the middle district of the Bastion. Though she doesn't invent as much as she did previously, she does occasionally conduct public lectures on magic use. She's also known to attend different gatherings hosted by nobles and the like. Some question how she still lives, being so old, and even a few speculate that she died a long time ago and is simply an impersonator now. The general populous doesn't really have an answer for that, seeing as how Immortality has not been achieved by anyone in history. It is simply a step no one has attained. And so the only voices of reason seem to be those accusing her of being an Impersonator. Those who do say that have different stories. But whether they say she died in the wars, or of old age, she has stated in public gatherings that she is and always will be alive. She has not given an answer as to why that is. Even so, she remains quite famous, a center of gossip, and even possesses a great amount of influence due to both her fame and riches. -- It was always raining in this world. There were few days when it wasn't. Hell, she'd never even seen the sky behind that ever-present barrier of dark clouds. Day was hardly brighter than night in this world, and if not for the lights of the city, it would appear as if it were night all the time. She hummed faintly, turning her thoughts to what she'd do for the day. She'd run into a rather slow drought, her only source of "something to do" was her lectures and the parties the nobles threw. Most of those didn't interest her, and she'd just given a lecture the day before. She'd said she'd do it again the following weak, so doing it again today was impractical. With a sigh, she supposed she could take a stroll through her expensive home. Perhaps she could go outside, if she grew confident enough in her ability to avoid extensive talks with pompous noblemen. Those talks were always about how successful they were. Trying to match themselves to her. She couldn't care less about that, in fact, she despised how they thought she was lording her fame over everyone. Perhaps if everyone else were as helpful or dedicated to SCIENCE as her, she wouldn't be special. With a sigh, she moved on from those thoughts. Instead of being pulled into a blame game with herself, she turned, and walked across her bedroom to the door that led out. Perhaps the people of this Bastion weren't like her in those ways. She knew many of them wouldn't dare go to the lengths she did to learn. Or perhaps even think to go to those lengths. Either way, it was passed time she moved on completely. From her room, and this inward discussion. Now in the hall, she was greeted by a passing servant. She bowed her head to greet him as well, and continued to the stairs. Making her way down to the ground floor, she eventually found herself staring at the door to the outside world. She supposed she could go out. It had occurred to her that she could disguise herself and not be bothered with others, but that would raise too many questions. She was, after all, rather different regardless of what she wore. Eventually she opted to go for a walk. Perhaps she could spend money at a charity, or something. Perhaps she could spend time at a library... Though, she was fairly certain hers was probably one of the biggest in the Bastion. Maybe someone had written something new. One of her more favorite libraries was near the Sanctum of Law, the only other base the Guards used aside from the Royal Palace. She supposed that would be a good destination for today, and began her way out of her Estate, passing a few sets of gates before she finally left her land and arrived on the Bastion's. "A walk would do me good," she murmured, and began to march herself over to the library. Only four minutes into the journey, and she realized her arms would be getting more exercise waving away carriages offering rides than her legs would walking. Eliciting yet another sigh, she continued to tromp down the road, chains clinking and armour clunking. -- Harriet blinked, and yet again she was alone with this young potential thief. Well, there was Charlie. But he didn't talk much. And nobody talked about him much. He was always just sorta... There. With a sigh, she went over to the bounty board and leaned against the wall there. She briefly wondered how good Elizabeth was at stealing, but ultimately opted to just stay out of it. If she were like anyone else who'd joined up here, she wouldn't really be interacting with her much.

As Elizabeth waited for Grant to tell her if he had a job for her, she felt anxious. With out a job she knew she wouldn't be able to survive out in the slums. Elizabeth started jumping through her mind and thinking about other jobs she might have to take, and how tough or easy they might be.

Grant;
Nodding to Cynthia, Grant pulled Owen into the kitchen. Making sure that the kitchen door was shut, Grant lowered the stair case again while whispering to Owen. "Do you have a job that needs done?"
Faye:
The ride to the Sanctum of Law didn't take as long as Faye would of thought. Or maybe it did and time seemed to go by faster as she sat absorbed with her little booklet. The carriage stopped, and the door opened. A guard stood holding the door open. Tucking the booklet in a pocket on her dress, Faye exited the carriage.
The building in front of her was large and grand. It didn't look it, but the building was one of the most of the secure buildings in the bastion. The building was in the shape of a hexagon and light gray in colour. The building was intimidating in look. A large pair of stained wooden doors sat in front.
Faye walked up to the doors and entered the building. The floor had rugs leading down the halls. She walked down the hall, passing by the many people who wandered the halls. After walking for a bit she came to a door and stopped. She turned and walked though.
The floor was carpeted, with some portraits on the walls. A man sat behind a desk across the room. The portraits where of him, he was slightly old looking, white hair and plenty of medals on his uniform. Faye cleared her throat.
The man turned to face her and stood up quickly. "Madam." Faye motioned for him to sit, taking a seat her self. "I hear you have a thief in custody." She said leaning towards the man.

"I do," he said, not meeting Grant's gaze but instead peering down the newly formed stairs. "I assume you have someone to take it?" The two men descended the narrow staircase to the basement as they talked.
