An RP thread.
In a world full of chaos, and madness, there are few bastions. Great sprawling cities home to the civilized men and women of The World. In this dark gloomy reality, the Bastions keep you safe. The world outside the Bastions are forsaken, left to the horrors that inhabit them.
Inside the Bastions, life is governed by heavy political society. Noblemen are the elite magic users who rule the city, and the commoners range from lowly merchants, peasants, and penniless vagrants. While Bastions keep isolated from the others, it isn't very uncommon for daring individuals to brave the dense jungles to visit other Bastions.
Magic is considered a complex practice, for only the most skilled and intelligent. And that it is. Though many manage to learn it through sheer will and determination, some are born with it. Those who are born with it are either already in a a noble family of great status, or will be. Being born with the runic mark of magicka would uplift your family, placing you among the noblemen of your Bastion. Rivalry is common among the elite, and unofficially, murders as well.
Under the command of the Lord Regent Kyrion Mogal, one Bastion is home to a considerable amount of corruption in it's government. The guard literally run by pompous, dark-hearted elitists, it's quite hard for the commoners within that city to scrape out a living. This is where the story will take place.

Name:Grant Lingren
Age:25
gender:Male
occupation:Owner of the Posh Griffon, and runner of the rune Black market.
Appearance: Standing 6'3, Messy black hair, well kempt beard, hazel eyes. He has an ice blue rune shaped like a clock gear on the back of his right hand. The magic Grant specializes in is increasing his sensory processes, mostly in the form of slowing down time around him while keeping his reaction speed the same. His families position was stripped by rival families and they were cast into the streets. As a result Grant had to learn to use magic on his own and soon found it helpful whilst stealing. After years of honing his art, Grant found himself wanting to slow down and help others who are in the slums in the city. As a result he opened the Posh Griffon and the RBM (Rune Black Market) in order to give the aspiring thieves and anarchists a helping hand. Grants sword has runes on it that allow him to create a heated blade that can cut through most materials and weapons.

Name: Harriet Shaw
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Appearance: Harriet stands at about 5'6", and has a slender, slightly toned build. Freckles powder across her cheeks and nose. Her face is rounded, with thin eyebrows and dark blue eyes. Her nose is petite, and is slightly upturned. She doesn't wear any sort of makeup. Short hair for a girl, not even making it to her shoulders, sits atop her head in a usually stylish mess. Bangs carelessly brushed to the side and slightly covering her left eye, while the other side is sometimes spiked out in a swept back, some tucking behind her ear. Her girlish features are nothing too extraordinary, with hips of average width and a moderately sized chest.
Other/important information(Specific outfit, piercings, weapons, stuff like that): Miss Shaw wears a rather roguish outfit. A rugged leather-padded jacket, particularly along her biceps, over her chest, and back. This has a hood. Around her neck is a scarf of matching colour. Along her belt are various pouches in which she keep her rogue stuffs. Her pants are similar to her jacket, being leather padded down the other sides of her legs. Straps keep the clothing tight, so as to minimize noise. A leather strap slung over her shoulder holds a pack to her back. The front of this strap holds a few small pouches for other various things. She wears two combat boots, both of which have three spikes arching out like claws from the steel toe ends, for each boot. Her outfit is mostly a dark, dark navy blue. Leather padding and straps are black. On her left boot is a small dagger. Hanging from her right hip is a sort of club, a blackjack.
Occupation: Roguish Thief Extraordinaire.
History/ personal info: All she's known, since she was but five years old, was thievery. Taught by her father, she's spent her entire life as a thief. And paired with her clever mind, she'd grown into the job quite well. By now she's about as good as any other thief. Proof of that is how the guard hasn't even heard of her. She does semi-well for herself, obviously picking her targets carefully. She doesn't do anything too risky unless there's a certain job she's taken. She doesn't live in any one spot, and tends to commonly visit the Posh Griffon for both alcohol and to visit the owner. Whom's she's grown quite buddy-buddy with over their years of business together.

The soft touch of a spring breeze, the warmth of a bright morning and the sound of song birds calling out. Grant wondered when the last time he had woken up to them. After all it was yet another morning of being woken up by a gaurd chasing away vagrants that slept in shelter of the porch infront of the bar. The only nice thing about the mornings was the soothing sound of rain, Grant thought as he rolled over in his bed. He let his right arm hang over him and off the bed. Even with the morning sun hidden behind the clouds, the rune on his hand stood out clearly. Sighing, grant got up determined to finally get his bar looking decent before it opened.

Cynthia gazed through the smog radiating from the factories. From up in the building she stood, she could see the whole city drenched under the downfall of this morning. She sees the guards wandering around below in the streets and takes a deep breath. 'Things have been getting allot worse in this city,' she thinks to herself and with a sigh, she looks down into her hands and sighs, flipping through her empty job book and she mumbles to herself, "Not a single job in three weeks, how uneventful." her gaze passes from page to empty page. "not even a single guard mission either. They are usually logging me with jobs." She turns around and flops down onto her bed. "I'm just gonna lay here till the rain stops for the morning, then I may go for a walk."

The sounds of rain, workmen, and horse-carriages eventually got through to Harriet. Cracking her eyes open, she groaned, raising a hand and running a hand through her messy hair. Sniffing a little to clear her nose, lazily got to her feet. The abandoned house she'd slept in for the night felt stuffy now. Even if the environment in the Bastion was just cold, wet, and windy, this dusty old house made her sinuses feel weird. All the more reason for her to leave.
Scooping up her pack, and slinging it over her shoulder, Harriet slipped her hood up and pulled her scarf over her nose as made her way over to the window. With a little effort, she got it open, and climbed through. The sounds were louder outside, and the rain was now hitting her hood and shoulders. Still, she felt safe up here. The Thief's Highway - as she liked to call it - above the streets and below the rooftops were any sneaky person's safe haven. Taking in one last deep breath, Harriet set off down across a plank to start making her way to a familiar place of business. There was much work to do today, after all.

Grant grabbed his clothes from the night before and threw them on. Ignoring his shoes he walked down stairs into the bars small kitchen. Dishes from last night sat on a rack drying. The kitchen was clean with the counter tops wiped down nightly after closing. An island with burners sat int the center with the counters and a sink on the corner wall. A dual hinged door led out into the bar. The floors were wood and booths were set along the walls. Tables of various sizes sat scattered about thhe floor. Bottles of various drink sit behind the counter gaurded by a grate. All in all the Posh Griffon in far better repair than anywhere else in the area. The floor were kept clean, the chairs were in near perfect condition, only needing repairs every now and than. Even the outside of the bar was in excellent shape. All except the porch. At night it became home to those with out their own. With bucket and mop in hand Grant began washing away the bile and refuse.

Name: Owen Royce Age: 27 Gender: Male Appearance: Owen stands 5’9” tall. His hair is a dark brown and is most commonly bushy and unkempt despite his attempts to make it otherwise. His eyes are hazel with flecks of yellow dotting them. One eyelid droops lower than the other and gives him a somewhat peculiar look, most notably when he is fatigued. His gait is relaxed but composed.
Occupation: Freelance contractor/explorer
History: Born a noble, Owen led a life of ease in his early youth; however, he did not take well to the pressures of noble traditions and strayed from the path his parents desired for him. His curiosity about the world outside the bastions drove him towards a more exploratory field and he made full use of the resources and education available to him in order to pursue his interest. As his world views stray from the typical political sentiments of his fellow nobles, Owen often lends aid to local thieves in exchange for information and passage out of the bastions.

The journey from place to place could sometimes take quite a while in the Bastion. The giant city was indeed giant. It had four highways, not including the Thief Highway. One going from North to South, one from East to West, one from Northwest to Southeast, and one from Southwest to Northeast. Walking along one without obstruction from start to finish easily took a day. There was the steam monorail in the middle of the highways, but many did not have the money to pay their tolls. All things considered, Harriet felt she was much better off not having a set home. She lived where the business was good, and that was that.
In about an hour, she'd traveled through a couple houses, stolen some silverware and a lucky few silver coins, and arrived upon the roof of the Posh Griffon. She might not have been lady-like, or particularly polite, perhaps not even one of an honest living, but she always showed up on time. And when she got there, was just about the time her old pal Grant had begun cleaning his porch.
So as not to damage any of the shingles on the overhang, Harriet crept down in a light fashion. When she reached the edge, the thief dropped to the ground and landed on the muddy ground with little noise. Though she did splash a bit of the muddy water onto the porch that Grant was cleaning. She did notice that however, glancing down at her addition to the mess Grant was trying to deal with.
"... Sorry," Harriet mumbled through her scarf, nodding her head down at the mess and pointing at it in unison.

The rain had slowed a bit to the point where Cynthia decided that it was indeed about as light as the rain would be all day. She groans and stands up once again. She moves toward her shelf that sat on the opposite side of the room from her bed. To her right is now the hallway with the exit and to her left the large window and a deck she had rarely used. On the way to the exit there are turnoffs leading into the bathroom and kitchen. A small flat, she didn't need much, side from her rather extravagant clothing. She took out her favorite dress from the hanger next to the shelf and threw it on as well as her dark stockings and boots. After she had become fully clothed she headed down to the bathroom, and took out two hair ties and put in her twin tails in the usual fashion. Now she goes up to the door and looks down grabbing her blades and their holsters that sat in the container next to the door. She withdrew a piece of bread from the kitchen and made her leave.

Harriet shrugged loosely with a single shoulder, looking down the road to her left. There was never too many folks around here at this hour, aside from the sleeping hobos here and there. Eventually she turned her attention back to Grant to give him her delayed response.
"I was in the area," she replied simply. Looking to her right this time, she appeared to be searching for something. A sign, that she didn't quite see. Which was good, because that sign would be guards carrying out loot from 'liberated' houses. "Yesterday's raids didn't get to you?" Harriet was of course referring to the many evictions the guard had done the day before. It was in the news paper, and though the paper claimed it to be righteous and just, any miscreant like Harriet or Grant could tell something like that was just to steal from poor sods who got targeted.

"The guards wouldn't dare it, not unless they had a born magic user with them." answered Grant frowning at a particular stain that always seemed to allude him. "Than again the magic user probably wouldn't do anything either."

Harriet nodded in agreement. It was probably true that more than a few people knew what went through Grant's bar. But no one had solid proof, and no one wanted to risk their neck trying to get any. It was more trouble than it was worth, and that was that. Still didn't keep that looming threat of her main source of business getting shut down. She knew for sure that Grant would be executed. She thought of him as a friend, so that wasn't very appealing on a personal level as well. It was a good thing his name still carried weight.
"Get a mat out here. People'll track mud onto the porch." It was true, there was mud right in front of the porch. Doing her best to scrape off what mud she could from her boots on the first step, she then made her way up and into the bar.

"The mats get stolen." Grant replied as Harriet walked by. He cleaned for a few more minutes leaving only the stain that had been on the porch for years. He leaned on the mop and looked down the street. The number of vacant houses grew every week. It almost seemed as if they were closing him in. He had known some of the occupants of the houses, not well, but he knew them none the less. Still he could also understand why the guards chose those houses. After all some had some pricey looking things in them. 'Really is a shame ill never see them pass through my door' He thought as he headed inside.

As the rain came pouring down in the slums, Elizabeth wandered about, trying to find the Posh Griffon. She had been given directions by a fellow theif and told that if she ever needed work to go there and ask for the owner Grant Lingren. As she had nearly given up hope on the directions she'd been given, she stumbled upon the Posh giffon. She went inside and saw two people standing there and asked who the owner was.

Cynthia stepped out into the gloomy light of the city and the gentle drops of rain on the pavement. She headed down the street to at least find something interesting to do. As she headed down the road, she spotted two guards walking in her direction. She placed her hand on the booklet she carried with her at all times. Both guards stood, not much taller than her and they had been talking to each other the entire time they were walking. As Cynthia passed them, one of the guards glanced toward her and gave a lethargic wave in recognition to Cynthia. Both guards continued to walk, not saying a single word to Cynthia. She sighed, frowned and dropped the booklet back into her pocket. 'Probably just heading back from closing down another house.' she thought. Cynthia closed her eyes for a minute as she walked down the sidewalk. She peered through the windows of the closed houses to see all of the empty rooms. She shook her head and continued walking. Across the street now stood a bar she had passed a few times before but never went inside. "Who goes to get drunk this early?" she says to herself, looking as a black haired girl entered the bar. She also noticed how young this girl looked. Curious and bored at the same time, Cynthia wandered toward the bar.

Harriet knew this was a public place, but when the girl followed her and Grant inside the bar she was a little surprised. Normally no one but her ever got here as early as this, aside from the barmaid. She was likely in the back, preparing kegs of the more common ale. Turning around to get a look at the girl, she appeared to be quite young.
Her fair face said that she hadn't seen too much action. Nor did it seem like her upbringing was a very hard one. This was only observation however, and quite possible that her looks were deceiving. It didn't keep her from noticing how innocent the girl appeared to be.
"This one's all yours," Harriet muttered to Grant uninterestedly, walking over to the bar counter and reaching over it. Always on the top shelf of behind the counter was her wine bottle and glass. She'd gotten the drink herself before, and she was sure it wouldn't bother Grant too much this time either. They were pals, after all. She'd probably be living here if she didn't feel so antsy after staying in one spot for so long. Either way, she pulled out three silvers and four coppers to pay preemptively. The coppers were just her little tip to Grant, for being a friend or for giving her business, the reason wasn't clear; though she did it every time she stopped by.

Looking at girl who'd entered after Harriet and himself, Grant could easily tell that she was neither born or raised in the slums. Or anywhere near them. "I'm the owner. Name's Grant." he said moving forward with his hand outstretched.
Up close he could get a better feel where she grew up. It didn't take long for him to figure it was the better part of the city. It became even more evident when he caught site of the rune of the rune on her palm. Quickly he racked his brain trying to figure out why a Noble would be down in the slums. With a dagger no less.
Silently he cursed himself for shrugging off the guards closing of house as nothing more than a nuisance. Swiftly he changed his posture and presentation of himself. "Sorry for the poor attire, I was cleaning the porch. See we're not technically open at this point in time. At least we really wont be serving any drinks." He said turning to lead the girl into the bar and introduce Harriet, whom was drinking wine. Grant shot her a glance that clearly asked why.

Elizabeth entered shook grants hand when offered. "Your fine, I did not come hear for a drink," she started, raising the note. Before she could state her buisness with Grant, she noticed the woman that had been following her. Motioning toward Cynthia, she asked if Grant knew her.

"My name is Cynthia. Nice to meet you all." she said before Grant could respond to the girl. "I am here on grounds of my own boredom, to put it quite bluntly." She walked in more and sat down at the bar stool and crossed her legs, unintentionally making a sassy pose. "I figured talking to people would make up for my lack of work currently,-" She flipped her booklet around in her hand for a second. "I also find it interesting that this young looking girl just entered a bar." she said eyeing Elizabeth.

A bit shocked at the action of the newcomer before him Grant turned to Elizabeth. "I can talk in just a bit. Why dont you gl into the kitchen with Harriet and she should be able to help you." He said motioning toward the kitchen door. After motioning he walked behind the counter and looked Over Cynthia over. He was curious about what the booklet was about, but it wasnt the main issue. Grant knew who Cynthia was and that had worked with the guards on occasion. She had the air of a noble though not really the style.
Grant stood tall behind the counter. "A lack of work would usually be seen as a good thing for a Noble." He said calmly.

Harriet caught Grant's disapproving gaze, though she didn't cease pouring herself a drink. Her response was a careless, single-shouldered shrug and then the immediate flat expression when he appeared to intend on bringing her into introductions as well. Her deadpan was quite clearly getting the "... really?" look across. To her partial dismay, another random person walked into the bar. She usually came here in the early hours because there was little to no people. Never any before opening. And yet it seemed her luck was slowly decreasing, as Grant asked her to take the girl to the kitchen and talk. Talk. And he bloody used her real name! Sighing heavily, she emptied her half glass down her throat and slid off her seat. Briefly glancing over at Cynthia, she took the time to study her.
This Cynthia character looked like she thought highly of herself. Like the girl, she looked like she was well enough off that she didn't have to have anything to do with this part of town. And quite honestly in Harriet's opinion all this actual rich-like personage could only be bad luck for the Posh Griffon. Either way, she appeared full of herself. She was probably sitting on lots of dirt, like any noble person in this city. With a dismissive huff to end her biased survey of Cynthia, she turned to the younger woman and nodded off to the left, toward the kitchen door.
"This way," she muttered. Practically an order, in the tone of voice that she used. A slightly commanding monotone. With that said she began to walk over to the kitchen door, and pushed through it. The kitchen wasn't super spacey, but it was private enough. After a moment of observing a particular little spider on the ceiling, Harriet looked down to the girl assuming she'd obeyed in following her here. She supposed introductions should be made.
"Guess you already know my name," she mumbled, folding her arms over her chest and shifting her weight to her left leg, "still don't know yours though. Wanna remedy that?"
